Joe Condit and Ken Harrison gathered for a chat in early June and soon found themselves in a Holy Spirit moment. Perhaps a game-changing moment?
Condit is the founder of CatholicSpeakers.com, which houses many top Catholic speakers. Harrison is chairman of Promise Keepers, recognized as a Protestant men’s organization.
And while not fully aligned on matters of faith, their shared love for Christ and for spreading the good news led to an interesting development: Jim Caviezel, a devout Catholic and actor who played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, appearing as a key speaker at an August Promise Keepers event in Tulsa.
Fittingly, perhaps, the event, set for Aug. 9-10 at the Mabee Center, is called Daring Faith. Tickets are available at DaringFaith.org. The Promise Keepers event is now offering father's free tickets to their sons. So, when a father buys a ticket, all his sons are free to join him.
Condit said he and Harrison “bonded over the mission and desire to bring men of all walks of life together in the name of Christ. Adding a Catholic speaker like Jim Caviezel to their already impressive list of speakers was a no-brainer in our minds. God bless Ken for having the vision and openness to include a Catholic message in an event that traditionally has not had one.
“What is happening in Tulsa is first of its kind in a way, and we are so excited to be a part of it. We are truly pioneering and breaking boundaries together for Christ.”
Promise Keepers, founded by former college football coach Bill McCartney in 1990, is not affiliated with any Christian church or denomination, yet has attracted mostly Protestant men. It has, too, however, inspired some Catholic men’s organizations.
“In a divisive world, we must unite as Christians, and this is what Promise Keepers seeks to do,” said Shane Winnings, Promise Keepers CEO. “We are thrilled to have speakers from different streams of Christianity speaking at our event, from Baptist to Catholic to Pentecostal to reformed.
“We will come together this August under one name, and that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the only way to God and the only hope for our souls, our families, and our nation.”
Said Condit, “We have booked thousands of non-Catholic and secular events. I would not say that there is one speaker in particular, but many of our Catholic speakers have had the opportunity to speak beyond the walls of just Catholic events. They always received rave reviews and positive reactions from audiences of all types.
“It is always encouraging to hear the feedback on how their Catholic message helped a person think of an issue from a slightly different perspective or taught them something they were not aware of. Ultimately, the Word of God always works wonders.”
