The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City Catholic Committee on Scouting and Outdoor Evangelization celebrated its annual Mass on March 30, with Archbishop Coakley presiding over a gathering of scouts, families and leaders at The Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Camp.
The event highlighted the deep connection between scouting and faith, recognizing youth and adults for their dedication to Catholic values and spiritual growth.
During the Mass, several scouts from across the archdiocese were recognized for completing a religious emblem program. Scouting America’s young Tiger and Wolf Cub Scouts received the Light of Christ emblem for fostering a personal relationship with Jesus, while Bear and Webelos Cub Scouts earned the Parvuli Dei (Children of God) emblem for discovering God’s presence in their daily lives.
Older Scouts BSA youth completed the Pope Pius XII emblem for exploring Church vocations and engaging in youth-led discussions on faith and societal challenges. One American Heritage Girl completed The Spirit Alive emblem for embracing the Holy Spirit’s call to active ministry.
The rare Pillars of Faith Award was awarded to three scouts who completed all four traditional Catholic Religious emblems for their respective scouting program, symbolizing their commitment to faith as a foundation for life. Two adults were also celebrated, with Archbishop Coakley and Dr. Matthew Aguilar receiving Bronze Pelican Awards for their significant contributions to Catholic Scouting within their local community and the archdiocese.
